We Can't Do It Alone: How A Corporate Partnership Fuels Our Mission

When Shelter, Inc. turned to Naperville-based WEBIT Services for IT strategy, service and support five years ago, we gained not only a technology partner but a corporate champion who shares our commitment to helping the most vulnerable children and families in our community.

Since 2018, WEBIT Services has been supporting Shelter by sponsoring events, participating in fundraisers like Shelter's annual 5K Run/Walk 4 Kidz, and volunteering.

This year, we are honored to have Eric Rieger, Founder and CEO of WEBIT Services, as our Event Chair for Shelter's 2023 Home is Where the Heart Is Gala.

Giving back and supporting community organizations like Shelter, Inc. has been part of WEBIT’s mission since its beginning in 1996. Says Rieger, "Supporting Shelter aligns with our core values and beliefs. "  WEBIT, an employee-owned company, hopes to positively impact 1,200 nonprofit organizations by the year 2030.

Now more than ever, nonprofits like Shelter, need the support of businesses to further their mission. These valuable partnerships provide us with critical funds and the opportunity to share Shelter's important work with a wider network and engage new donors.

Sharing a Passion, Sharing a Mission

On September 9, Executive Helen Ryan Savaiano (top photo, second from right) blended her love of horses with her passion for helping the community by introducing Shelter, Inc. to invited guests at Barrington Polo Club's LaCompte/Kalaway Cup.

Savaiano said, "I wanted to host a 'friend-raiser' to introduce new people to Shelter and their important work, and couldn't think of a better or more unique place to do it." Savaiano is a proven leader with expertise in organic, ground-up business growth resulting in profitable return on investment, top line growth, expense management and exceeding business targets.

Simone Wheeler, Shelter's Director of Development attended the event along with Shelter board member Lindsay Tintera (second row, middle photo, left) and her daughter (both equestrians), commenting, "We are so grateful to Helen and her invitation to the LeCompte/Kalaway Cup. As a non-profit we’re always looking for ways to increase visibility and expand our reach in the community."

If you would like to plan a gathering to share information about Shelter, please contact Simone.

Kids' Books that Celebrate Latinx Voices and Culture

Each year, September 15 marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, which was designated as a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Mexico, Spain, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

Exposing children to other cultures and heritages has tremendous benefits, and reading together is one of the best ways to teach kids to be citizens of the world. Books can help foster an understanding and appreciation for the challenges, traditions, history, and values of other cultures and help us all become more open to different perspectives.

Check out the Chicago Public Library's recommended list of children's books to read.
